MiSTer FPGA - Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon [Pt. 1 Demos & Intro] / Super Famicom (SNES)

Eng. translation romhack: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/480/
THIS is the kind of JP-only game I would have loved to play on SNES, but was never officially localized. I was heavily into Rogue for DOS prior to owning a SNES, and never knew this existed until recently. I've discovered quite a few unique Rogue-style games on classic consoles, and will have future videos for those as well. All three demos are edited together, after the intro. (see timestamps)

This one suffers with some issues in the fan translation, but only for the intro sequence. Seems they ran into some limitations on character space and squished things together as best they could. There are areas with the text mostly out of view also. Here is the full/corrected intro text:

"There's a small village named Lakenaba somewhere in the world. A fine family man called Taloon lived in Lakenaba. Taloon worked at Sese's Weapon Shop. He lived happily with his wife and son. But inside, he had a dream. His dream was to buy his own store and fill it with fresh goods. Such a dream!

So, he embarked on a journey.

Taloon was helped by the Prince and he was able to buy a new shop at Endor. He called his wife, Nene and his child, Popolo to come live with him at his new shop. Even the King was pleased with the new shop. However, Taloon was restless.

One day, Taloon heard of a Mysterious Dungeon. A cavern filled with fabulous treasures. But no one has ever returned from the Mysterious Dungeon. Taloon yearned for the treasures in the Mysterious Dungeon. But he also worried about his family. Nene smiled at Taloon nervously and said to him, 'Dear, I want you to follow your dreams and seek new opportunities!' Thus, Taloon began a new journey.

Taloon went across many seas and after much searching, Taloon found the fabulous dungeon.

And our story begins!"

Unless you can read the JP manual, this is a great resource for understanding the basics! Avoid this if you want to figure it out on your own, and be surprised by what the later enemies are, etc. You can learn both basic and advanced info from NPCs, so talk to all of them when you have a chance, including those that come up to the shop window. The translation for NPC conversations is great.

An undocumented feature I found, was that you can hold select while choosing one of the "replay" files, and it will show you one of the example gameplay demos without having to sit through the boring-ass intro over and over again to see them. The replay option shows your gameplay of the last floor completed, usually. You'll need to complete at least one floor for this to work. You can see all three demos by copying your existing game to the other two files, and holding select while choosing them from the replay menu.
