Liverpool and FSG 'lead controversial plans for European Super League' | REPORT

Controversial plans for a European Super League involving Liverpool could reportedly be announced as soon as tonight.

And it's claimed that Reds owner John Henry may be one of several vice-chairmen in charge of the breakaway competition, as Matt Addison explains.

Liverpool sources remained tight-lipped earlier today when the ECHO asked about the speculation that the Reds have signed up for the new tournament.

An initial report from The Times suggested that Liverpool had given their backing for the proposals - along with Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

But now the Daily Mail claims that "12 signatories" are backing the deal which could be announced as early as 9.30pm UK time on Sunday.

Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan are also involved, with each team being offered up to £310m to join the competition.
