AMAZON
X-Ray - IMDb for cast, including bios, photos, other movies they were in, etc.
X-Ray - also includes character bios to explain if you are confused or interested
X-Ray - trivia pop ups and trivia section with “Jump to Scene” option
Scene selection
X-Ray - Music and soundtracks, plus “Jump to Scene” to see the songs
Extremely compatible with Amazon systems (FireStick, Kindle Fire, etc.) - also works well with Amazon Alexa
In app, unfortunately you cannot swipe between tabs
NETFLIX
Consistent across all platforms
Supported on many devices like smart TVs, phones, laptops, etc.
Shows recent movies and TV shows you watched but didn’t finish
Allows mini player on desktop
Winner - probably Amazon
2. Price
NETFLIX: $8-$14/mo but these might change
Easier to cancel since it is a month to month charge - also nice that it only charges monthly. Amazon sometimes charges lump sums without much warning
You choose the quality you want and pay accordingly. More flexibility in the plan
AMAZON: $119/yr (~50% off for students, family plans available)
Amazon has many other perks like free music, shipping, unlimited photo storage, and more. If you are interested in getting prime, please click the link in the description for a free 30 day trial. If you are a student, please click the link for 6 free months.
Winner - Tie. Amazon gives more bang for the buck, but Netflix allows for more flexibility
3. Content
AMAZON:
Originals are good
By 2020, Amazon will pass Netflix in spending on content. Amazon is projected to spend $8B while Netflix is projected to only spend $7B.
More kids shows and movies, like Spongebob, on Amazon
Rent or buy movies/shows available - this is great for the newest movies and shows that are not on Netflix or Amazon Prime yet
Unfortunately, not everything is Prime (on Netflix, you can watch whatever is there and it is already included in your price. On Amazon, you need to pay to rent some movies, but that makes their selection much larger)
Has Thursday night football (NFL)
TV add-ons available like HBO, Showtime, NBA, CBS, etc.
Close to 20k titles
Great originals like Jack Ryan, and The Man in The High Castle
NETFLIX:
700+ Netflix originals/series
$6B annual spending on content
Non-original content passes through quickly
Over 5500 titles according to some online sources
Has Planet Earth. (this is amazing. If you never saw PE2, you’re missing out!!)
Note: I cannot debate taste, so the title selection is really up to you. I will say that if you like the newest movies, it may be best to just rent them on Amazon. I use both Amazon Prime and Netflix because I use Prime for the other benefits it offers. Check out my other video on that!
Winner: Netflix, but it may become Amazon in the next 2 yrs. Cannot debate taste though
