The different days and caves were played separately and stitched together in this video, this was not a continuous run. Being fast wasn't the goal - was just trying to complete clear the game in 8 days without deaths.
This game uses the same control scheme than Pikmin 1 HD, so it shares the sames issues (such as reduced whistle range, not being to aim while not being in throwing/whistling stage, etc). This game is very similar to the Wii/WiiU versions gameplay wise, except a few tweaks. One of those is that the "bridge glitch" is fixed, which means that bridges take a lot more time to unfold. In previous versions of Pikmin 2, after entering a cave, each stage of bridge building would be instant, except the first one. This meant that after the first stage is cleared, you could build bridges with a single Pikmin.
Apart from that, this game also removes all the brands from the original versions, which have been replaced by generic textures. The treasures weights and value are identical to the NTSC-U version of the original game.
